At the beginning of a training session when my energy level is highest, I always start with compound movements where explosiveness and balance are of utmost importance. Examples of these types of exercises are deadlifts, squats, and bench presses.
My end-season workouts do not include aerobics, but do include heavy powerlifting movements that tend to be highly anaerobic and intense! The extra calories I eat during this training phase help keep my intensity high throughout each workout. My off-season is a 5-day-per-week program with 3 days on and 1 off, followed by 2 days on and 1 off.
